  • Leon Youlton

Right from an early age Leon held a passion for all things motor! Being it following the sport of Formula 1 or stripping and rebuilding everything from bicycles to cars. It was no surprise to anyone that his career would be firmly within the motor trade.

Leon started his career with W H Collins of Truro following a full 4 year apprenticeship attaining full City & Guilds and Craftsman’s certification. Four years later, in 1986, he took the leap to join Cornwall’s Mercedes-Benz main dealer Cathedral Motor Company as a Motor Vehicle Technician.

This small but prestigious business offered Leon the opportunity to undertake repairs, servicing and diagnostics on the Mercedes Benz range of passenger and commercial vehicles. Whilst wishing to remain firmly within the motor trade Leon sought a change in role.  Outside of the day job he studied at Plymouth College and successfully achieved the Institute of Motor Industry Certificate of Motor Vehicle Management.  This supported appointment to the position of Service Manager in 1993. In 2002 the business was taken over by Mercedes Benz Southwest and Leon transferred to the new site at Tresillian.

During the following years Leon saw both changes in company/corporate direction as well as many changes to the product range. Leon thoroughly enjoyed managing a busy Service department with a team of twenty staff, dedicated to delivering excellent levels of service levels and ensure customer satisfaction.  Throughout these years Leon strove to maintain his self-development and successfully completed a host of technical training courses offered by Mercedes Benz.  This allowed him to keep up to date with the numerous changes in the product range and the advance of technology. In 2002 Leon successfully completed an HNC Motor Vehicle Management and was awarded Student of the Year in recognition of outstanding achievement throughout the course and final examination grades.

Still holding a passion for the brand and for the delivery of exceptional service standards it is a testament to this effort that the Service department always achieved top scores in customer satisfaction surveys and at one stage the Truro branch was rated number one in the UK for customer service!

While wishing to retain his strong link with the brands of Mercedes Benz and Smart which he holds in high regard, Leon decided he would like to utilise his extensive skills and knowledge of the product in a new business venture. No longer under the constraint of corporate ambition he is delighted to have formed a partnership with Steve Landry, Master Technician and Smart guru, who holds similar ambitions of business delivery.

Leon is really looking forward to greeting both former and new customers, utilising his technical skills once more and being able to offer exceptional service, diagnostic and repair to a range of vehicles.  All this at an affordable price so that the pleasure of owning and driving well engineered cars like Mercedes Benz or Smart vehicles can continue for all their customers.  Leon can continue his work within the trade for which he has always held such passion.

  • Steve Landry

Throughout his school days Steve had a real desire to follow a practical career and was certainly drawn to all things mechanical. In his spare time he tinkered with anything motor and liked to pull anything apart to find out it all really worked.  Fortunately, he always managed to put it all back together again too!

After leaving school he began his apprenticeship with haulage company, R & O, after a short spell with Rowes Honda his training was completed.  Steve then secured a post as a qualified technician/engineer and spent 6 years rebuilding, reconditioning and machining.  Hence there is little that Steve doesn’t know about how an engine works and how to maximise performance! Looking for a chance to broaden his experience in the motor trade Steve took a position with Kessells and specialised in the repair and servicing of Suzuki and Mitsubishi.

Working at Kessels and Rowes Dealerships Steve gained extensive experience within the motor trade.  With a strong desire to progress his career within the prestige market Steve moved to join the Mercedes Benz Technical Team in 2001.  With a real passion to learn and a willingness to always go the extra mile Steve soon progressed.  Attending countless training courses on models within the whole range, Steve soon built expert knowledge across a wide sphere.  Always willing to embrace the challenge of new models Steve undertook the required training and became a real guru on the Smart range.  In recognition of his exceptional skills and abilities to diagnose faults, ensure rectification and always in the best interests of the customer, Steve became a Master Technician for both Mercedes Benz and Smart.  Steve also regularly put his skills to use assisting customers when they experienced difficulty at the roadside.  By providing out of hours breakdown assistance Steve was often able to effect repairs that allowed customers to continue their journey without delay.

In his spare time Steve continues his avid interest in the motor industry.  The proud owner of a Morris Minor and Mark 1 Ford Escort restoration projects are underway and progressing steadily.  Steve has a real passion for engineering and likes to study and learn all he possibly can about new developments. Delving into SCN coding has added a new dimension as Steve has now developed his skills and abilities in software programming.

Steve has enjoyed the learning, opportunities and putting all his skills to good use at Mercedes Benz Truro but now considers the time is right to join in partnership with Leon Youlton.  Being keen to meet new and old customers Steve is really looking forward to continuing to work on premium products, deliver outstanding engineering skills and meet the needs of Mercedes, Smart and commercial vehicle drivers.
